Position Description: The Congdon School of Health Sciences

time Assistant Director of Willed Body Program staff position. The Assistant Director will
coordinate daily operations within the Gross Anatomy Laboratory and support the Willed Body
Program under the direction of the Dean of the Congdon School of Health Sciences and the
Director of the Willed Body Program.
Assistant Director of Willed Body Program’s Responsibilities:
 Prepare and maintain anatomical specimens (donors) through embalming techniques for dissection and clinical training.
 Maintain a system that allows for 100% accuracy regarding the receipt, issuance, location and final disposition of donors and donor specimens.
 Assist donors and donor families after hours and on weekends with questions regarding the Willed Body Program or as it pertains to the death of a donor.
 Assist the Director of the Willed Body Program with meeting donor and donor families
when needed.
 Assist the Director of the Willed Body Program with annual memorial service and
arrange educational laboratory tours and outreach.
 Provide logistical support required to assist faculty, undergraduate and graduate students with their program needs.
 Assist with cadaver dissection and teaching of dissection and anatomy when requested.
 Work closely with the Environmental Health, Safety and Preparedness Manager to
maintain the safety of the lab and its users by overseeing safety programs related to the
use of cadavers and cadaveric materials including chemical safety, sharps safety, incident reporting, and proper maintenance of eyewash and shower stations.
 Implement a system that ensures the accounting of all models, tools, and associated
technologies needed for the proper teaching of anatomical dissection.
 Manage inventory and order related items required to keep the lab running efficiently
while effectively keeping a detailed budget and inventory supply list.
 Prepare reports for internal and external stakeholders.
 Perform other duties as assigned.

Essential Knowledge and Skills:
 Knowledge of North Carolina and Federal laws governing willed body/anatomical gift
programs, crematories, funeral service, and death registration.
 Knowledge of various embalming techniques.
 Knowledge of OSHA laboratory health and safety regulations and compliance.
 Strong organizational and reporting skills.
 Computer competency in the Microsoft Office Suite, particularly in the maintenance of
databases and spreadsheets.
 Demonstrated excellence in interpersonal and communication skills.
 Experience managing and maintaining the privacy of information and the confidentiality of records.
 Familiarity with and/or coursework relevant to human anatomy dissection is
advantageous.

Qualifications:
 Associates degree from an accredited mortuary school
 Valid Funeral Director/Embalmer License and/or the ability to obtain license in the State
of North Carolina
 Minimum three years’ experience in funeral directing, embalming, anatomy laboratory
management or related fields
