Obituary:

Mary Elizabeth Miller Hatley, 80, of Norwood passed away peacefully at the home of her son, Wednesday morning, July 13, 2016.

A Celebration of Mary Elizabeth’s Life will be held at 3:00PM Friday, July 15, 2016 in Edwards Funeral Home Chapel in Norwood. Rev. Todd McSwain will officiate and interment will follow in Norwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00PM until 7:00PM, Thursday evening at Edwards Funeral Home.

Mary Elizabeth was born September 25, 1935 in Anson County to the late Guy and Elizabeth Shankle Miller. She was a graduate of Ansonville High School and was a textile retiree. She was a longtime member of Norwood First Baptist Church. During the last 32 years, she has worked tirelessly with her son and family in the establishment of their business, Edwards Funeral Home, without her help, her son would have never been able to fulfill his dream.

Other than her family, she enjoyed spending time with her many friends and especially the Norwood Bojangles crowd.

Her memory will live on through her son, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, by the example she set before all of us living her faith by deed instead of just words. We will all miss her but rejoice in the fact that she is now enjoying eternal peace and contentment with the One who does all things well.

She is survived by her son, Mitchell Edwards and wife, Cindy of Norwood; four grandchildren, Taylor Edwards and wife, Megan of Eugene, Oregon, Lucy Edwards Crump and husband, Mason, Hallie Edwards Lambert and husband, Derek all of Norwood and Kenzie Edwards, a student at Mars Hill University; five great-grandchildren, Rex Mitchell Crump, Lillie Elizabeth Lambert, Luke Allen Crump, Ollie Mae Lambert, Wylie Thomas Lambert,; brother, John Miller and wife, Mary Boyd of Norwood; sister, Virginia Miller Hathcock of Palestine; nephews and nieces that she loved unconditionally, Chris Miller, Lee Miller, Debbie Davis, David Hathcock and Vivian Barnette.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Hatley; brother, Larry Lee “Mule” Miller and niece, Ann Miller.

Mitchell and his family would like to thank Patsy Yarborough and Sheila Morton for their compassionate and loving care, as well as the staff of Hospice.

Memorials may be made to:
