Alan King

May 15, 1956 — June 15, 2018

Alan Heath King, 62, of Burgaw, NC passed away Friday, June 15, 2018 at Lower Cape Fear Hospice and LifeCare Center in Wilmington, NC. He was born May 15, 1956 in Raleigh, the son of the late Jack Carroll King and Mable Broadwell King. Alan is survived by his wife of 22 years, Dale Lowery King; daughter, Tabetha Ellis (Billy); son, James D. Adams (Tonya); grandsons, Thomas James Adams and Tucker Adams; many loyal friends including Robert "Bobby" Lints, who was like a brother to Alan. Alan was a graduate of Gupton Jones College of Funeral Service, Atlanta, GA and through the years worked in several funeral homes across North Carolina. He was an active member of Jordans Chapel United Methodist Church where he served in many capacities including being a Family Life Minister. In 1984, Alan joined Burgaw Lions Club where he remained active, dedicating many hours until his passing. He held all positions in the club at one time or another and went on to serve as District Governor in North Carolina. Alan, a man of God, of compassion, and loyalty to his fellowman generously shared his time and talents with others. He found great joy in the simplest of things, but his greatest joy was his family. He loved western movies and most of all working in the Lion's Club so that visually impaired folk's lives could be improved with teaching, glasses or whatever the need might be. Alan's presence in his church, his home and in Burgaw Lions Club will be greatly missed. The family will receive friends 2:30 to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 17, 2018 at Jordans Chapel United Methodist Church, 4670 Stag Park Road, Burgaw, NC 28425. Funeral service will begin at 4:00 p.m. in the church sanctuary with The Rev. Bill Applewhite and The Rev. William Hill Pearsall conducting the service. Burial will follow in Burgaw Cemetery. Dale suggests that you consider a memorial gift to NC Lions, Inc., 7050 Camp Dogwood Drive, Sherrills Ford, NC 28673 or to Lower Cape Fear Hospice Foundation, 1414 Physicians Dr., Wilmington, NC 28401.
