Carey Brian Barfield

Carey Brian Barfield, 74, of Dunn passed away Sunday morning at Johnston Memorial Hospital. He was born in Harnett County on November 6, 1947, to the late Willie and Ruth Barfield. He was preceded in death by, two brothers, Jerry and Billy Barfield and his sister, Peggy Ruth Churn. 

Carey was a 1968 graduate of Dunn High School and joined the U.S. Coast Guard, where he served as a gunner’s mate. After returning home from the Coast Guard, he started his career in funeral service with Skinner and Drew and retired from Skinner & Smith Funeral Home after 48 years of service. He was a member of Palmyra Masonic Lodge, Sudan Shriners, Royal Order of Jesters, and the Dunn Shrine Club for over 45 years, where he was a past president. 

A graveside service will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Community Baptist Church Cemetery in Bladenboro, NC by Dr. Len Keever. 

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Rosa B. Barfield of Dunn, two sons, Carey Brian Barfield, II of Sweet Home, OR, Christopher Allen Barfield of Dunn, a granddaughter, Taytum Willow Barfield, several nieces and nephews. 

The family will receive friends Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Skinner & Smith Funeral Home.
