David Burr

September 28, 1925 — March 26, 2017

Mr. David A. Burr, 91, died Sunday, March 26, 2017 at his home. Funeral services will be 11:00am Wednesday, March 29, 2017 in the Chapel of Leavitt Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Anson Memorial Park. The family will greet friends from 6:00pm until 8:00pm Tuesday at the funeral home and other times at the home. David was born September 28, 1925 in Anson County, NC a son of the late James Thomas Burr and the late Rosa Currie Burr. He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during World War II. He was attached to General McArthur's headquarters 1618 Engineer Map Depot in both Manila and New Guinea. A proud resident of Anson County, he was born and reared in the Deep Creek Community and graduated high school there. In the 1950's he was elected Constable of Wadesboro Township which resulted in a life-long association with law enforcement. He was a dedicated employee of Hornwood, Inc. with more than 40 years of service at his retirement. David owned and operated David A. Burr Bail Bonding for more than 60 years with offices in Anson, Stanly, Montgomery and Richmond Counties. He and his family also owned and operated J.B. Video Stores. He worked at Leavitt Funeral Home for more than 50 years. He was a life-long Presbyterian and a member of First Presbyterian Church, Wadesboro and in later years attended the family's home church, Camden Presbyterian Church. He and his wife were devoted Atlanta Braves Fans and enjoyed spending time with their family and friends at their homes at Lake Tillery and Myrtle Beach. Surviving are his children, Patricia (Jimmy) Burns and David A. "Butch" (Joyce) Burr, Jr. both of Wadesboro, Sandy (David) McDougall of Apex and Phil (Kathy) Burr of Norwood; his grandchildren, David Burns, Stan Burns, Chad Burns, David A. "Dab" Burr, III, Robbie Burr, Wendy Burr, Melanie Fornes, Brian McDougall, Amy Boone, Jeremy Burr (Funeral Director with Leavitt Funeral Home, Wadesboro), Justin Burr and Jarrett Burr; 22 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are his sisters, Peggy (Robert) Pinkston and Minnie Lee Burr both of Wadesboro; his sisters-in-law, Nellie Burr of Rockingham and Frankie Carpenter of Polkton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Burns Burr and his brothers, Jimmy Burr and Ben Burr. The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to April Hill, Holly Grant, Patricia Mical, Wendy Burr, Mindy Pike, Amber Mical, Abbey Hill, Amy Hildreth, Jessica Bowers, Adrianna Barrett, Lindsay Black, and Jane Livingston who, because of their care, enabled David and his wife, Betty to stay in their home until their deaths. Also, a very special thank you to Liberty Home Care and Hospice for their care for David. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Liberty Home Care and Hospice, 2792 E.
