Mr. Dwight C. Younger, age 93, of Union Grove passed away Thursday, February 27, 2025, at his home.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Monday, March 3, 2025, at Taylor Springs Baptist Church with Pastor Allen Mullins and Rev. Carl Williams officiating. Burial with Military Honors by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1142 Honor Guard and the NC National Guard will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 7:00 PM Sunday, March 2, 2025, at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home and Monday, March 3, 2025, from 10:00 AM until 10:45 AM prior to the service at the church.
Dwight was born April 4, 1931, in Iredell County to Rev. L.T. and Era Redmond Younger. Dwight was a United States Army Veteran having served in the Korean Conflict. He was a Deacon, Sunday School Superintendent, Sunday School teacher, and church clerk at Taylor Springs Baptist Church. He was a very humble, generous and caring man. He helped care for his grandmother, father, father and mother-in-law, his siblings, and a brother-in-law. In their later years of marriage, he cared for his wife, Hilda. They were married for 71 years before Hilda’s death in May of 2024. Dwight had a deep love for his family, church, and community. He would recite poems from memory and always had a poem or story that fit the occasion.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife; Hilda Williams Younger, two sisters; Alta Lou Younger, Betty Privette and husband James, and three brothers; Redmond Younger, John C. Younger and wife Carolyn, and Coolidge Younger and wife Mary Lou.
He is survived by a daughter Ann Williams and husband Dennis of Statesville, two sons; Cole Younger and wife Zee of North Wilkesboro, Todd Younger and wife Diane of Union Grove, five grandchildren; Travis Younger and wife Christie, Morgan Y. Houck and husband Ryan, Evan Younger and fiancée Rhiannon Salem, Nathan Williams and wife Ivy, Hannah W. Sparks and husband Justin, five great-grandchildren; Colin Younger, Camille Younger, Reese Younger, Ryleigh Houck and Georgia Ann Williams.
