Francis Eugene Vogler III Jul 29, 1942 - Jun 10, 2018 Francis Eugene Vogler III, Gene, passed away on Sunday, June 10, 2018 in Winston-Salem. Gene was born on July 29, 1942 to Francis Eugene Vogler Jr. and Forrest Mosby Vogler in Winston-Salem. He attended Woodberry Forest and graduated from Reynolds High School and then Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. Gene began work in 1966 at Frank Vogler and Sons Funeral Home as the fifth generation to work there. He was a member of Home Moravian Church and the Rotary Club. Gene was an avid amateur golfer with many sub-par days to his credit. He was a fine and serious bridge player with a mind for numbers. He was an excellent dancer and a lover of all things authentic, especially homemade foods. He was a solid businessman with an eye for a good deal. He was also a strong shoulder and compassionate ear for those whose suffering he dealt with nearly every day of his working life. Perhaps more than anything he was a lover of the sea. He savored every moment of fishing, boating, swimming and combing the beaches for shells. He loved the sun, sand and salt air. In 1986 he financed, with his dear friend Bucky Dennis, the creation of the now, world-renowned, Jarrett Bay Boatworks with the first hand-crafted hull, The Sensation. In 1993, he married the love of his life Gina Jackson Griffin and moved to her hometown of Mount Airy. He retired from Vogler Funeral Services in 2007 and continued playing golf in Mount Airy at Cross Creek Country Club. Gene was preceded in death by his son, Blanton Miley Vogler. He is survived by his wife Gina Vogler of the home; son Francis Eugene Vogler IV and wife Carrie of Del Rio, TN; grandsons Silas and Cade; step-daughter Emily McPeak (David) of Mount Airy; step-grandson Carter; sister Whitley Rotgin (Chuck) of Charlottesville, VA; brothers J. Mosby Vogler (Meredith) of Winston-Salem, and Joe B. Vogler (Beth) of Weaverville, NC. The Memorial Service will be at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 13 at Home Moravian Church in Winston-Salem. The family will receive friends following the service in the parlor of Home Moravian Church. Burial will be at 3:00 p.m. at Oakdale Cemetery in Mount Airy. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Association, 216 W. Market Street, Suite B, Greensboro, NC 27401 or Surry Animal Rescue, 112 Quail Run Road, Mount Airy, NC 27030.
