Mrs. Goldia Lucille Cranford Cruse, 89, passed away Wednesday, April 5, 2017, at Morningside Assisted Living Center in Concord. A funeral service is scheduled for 2:00 pm Saturday, April 8, 2017, at Lady's Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Jeffrey J. Rushing will officiate. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Concord. The family will receive friends from 12 to 1:45 pm Saturday at Lady's Funeral Home. Mrs. Cruse was born May 10, 1927 in Montgomery County. She was a daughter of the late Rev. A.B. Cranford and Effie Jane Moore Cranford. She graduated from China Grove High School in 1945, then entered the Cadet Nurse Corps at Cabarrus Memorial Hospital following her high school graduation. She graduated from the Cabarrus Memorial Hospital School of Nursing with honors in 1948, and then began working as a Registered Nurse at Cabarrus Memorial Hospital. In 1953, she began her career at the Cabarrus County Public Health Department. She retired from the Cabarrus County Health Department as a Nursing Supervisor in December of 1987 after 34 years of providing services and programs to many people of Cabarrus County. Many friendships were made during those 34 years. Goldia was made a Life Member of the NC Public Health Association. She was also a member of the NC Retired Government Employees. She served six years as a member of the Cabarrus County Board of Health and served two terms on the Department of Aging and Senior Center Advisory Board. She also served as a volunteer with Cooperative Christian Ministries and the Salvation Army. She was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church, where she was active while her health permitted it. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Tracy A. Cruse, Sr.; daughter, Susan M. Cruse; two sisters, Rachel Cranford and Dorothy Schenck; and two brothers, Jessie Cranford and William J. Cranford. Mrs. Cruse is survived by her son, Tracy "Alex" Cruse, Jr. and wife Cathy of Concord; brother, "Buck" Cranford of Rockwell; four grandsons, Tracy "Trey" Cruse, III and wife Kelly, Trevor E. Cruse and fiancée Bethany Hunter, both of Concord, Matt London and wife Katie of Lake Orion, MI and Brent London of Concord; and two great grandchildren. The family would like to thank the staff of Morningside Assisted Living Center and Hospice & Palliative Care of Lake Norman, especially her nurse, Sylvia Pitman, for all of the care and support they have provided.
