Mr. Jimmy Lee McCraw, 59, of Mount Airy, passed away peacefully on Wednesday night, September 20, 2017, at his home, surrounded by his loving family. Mr. McCraw was born January 10, 1958, in Forsyth County, one of four children born to Arless Harper and Kathleen Smith McCraw. Jimmy was reared in the Pipers Gap community and graduated from North Surry High School in 1976. Following his high school graduation, he worked as a paramedic at Surry County Emergency Medical Services. He later went back to school and earned a diploma in mortuary science from Fayetteville Technical Community College. Jimmy dedicated his life to serving the families of Surry County during their deepest time of need through his work as a funeral director at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy. Countless families and individuals were the recipients of Jimmy's endless devotion to meet the needs of the grieving. He was the example of a true professional and a consummate gentleman. Jimmy brightened peoples' day with his infectious smile and friendly disposition. Additionally, Jimmy worked part-time for many years at Mount Airy Tractor Company and later at Independence Amoco. Jimmy was a faithful Christian and a member of Mount Carmel Baptist Church. He served as a board member for the Mount Airy Rescue Squad and was a longtime member of Round Peak Masonic Lodge #616 AF and AM. He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Sheila Bobbitt McCraw of the home; two daughters, Shaune Bohannon and Christi Edmonds, both of Mount Airy; a son and daughter-in-law, Sheldon and Jan Stanley of Mount Airy; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; his mother, Kathleen Smith McCraw of Mount Airy; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Judy and Mike Hodges, Nancy and Garry Goins, and Amy and Chris Fleming, all of Mount Airy; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. McCraw was preceded in death by his father, Arless Harper McCraw. A service of worship and celebration of Jimmy's life will be held Saturday, September 23, 2017, at 2:00 PM at Highland Park Baptist Church, with Dr. Darrell Tate and Dr. Roger B. Gilbert officiating. Burial will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens, with Masonic rites conducted by Round Peak Masonic Lodge #616 AF and AM. The family will receive friends Friday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Mount Airy Rescue Squad, P.O.
