Stepfather of Kim Walker and husband Jeff
Jimmy Larry “Housecat” Snyder, 82, of King, NC, formerly of Spartanburg, SC, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 22, 2024, at Woltz Hospice House in Dobson, NC, after a hard-fought battle with dementia.
Jimmy was born in Spartanburg County, SC, to the late Harry Lee Sr. and Viola Marie Medford Snyder. He retired from Sara Lee Bakery. Fondly known as "Housecat," he was well-known, loved, and respected by many in the Spartanburg area. He was a generous man who made sure to take care of those he loved and those who needed his help.
Jimmy's love for sports was unparalleled. He was an avid Washington Redskins fan, but his passion extended to all sports, especially golf and fast-pitch softball. His dedication as a coach led his team, the Housecats, to victory, winning state championships five years in a row.
Jimmy was not just a beloved husband, father, stepfather, grandfather, and great-grandfather. His presence filled our lives with joy, and his absence has left a void that can never be filled. He will be deeply missed, and his memory will forever live in our hearts.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Harry Lee Snyder, Jr., his sisters: Carolyn Justice and husband James, Charlene Lavender and husband David, Patricia “Pat” Keller, and husband Jerry, and Betty Jo Phillips, and a grandson, Jacob “Jake” Huges.
Left to cherish his memory are his devoted wife, Lenora Dale Snyder; his children, Chris Snyder and wife Deborah, Larry Snyder and wife Miri, Jimmy Dean Snyder, and Tracy Snyder Hines and husband Keith; his stepchildren, Kim Walker and husband Jeff, Kristy Deyoung, and husband Kevin, and Kevin Tatham, and wife Christy; his grandchildren: Jordy Snyder and wife Molly, Wendy Neely and husband Larry, Carissa Snyder, Dylan Snyder and wife Ginnie, Stephen Snyder, Jamie Snyder, Blake Snyder, Trent Snyder, Matthew Snyder, Emilie Snyder, Shane Hughes, Cody Gay, Michelle Patterson and husband Waylon, Daulton Tatham, Devin Tatham, Courtney Tatham, Brandon Rector, and Kaycen Deyoung; along with 30 great-grandchildren, and a brother-in-law, Tommy Phillips.
A memorial service to honor his life and memory will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, August 3, 2024, at Una First Baptist Church, with visitation to follow.
The family of Jimmy Larry "Housecat" Snyder is deeply grateful for the outpouring of love, support, and condolences during this difficult time. Slate Funeral Home is honored to serve the family. Online condolences may be offered at www.slatefh.com.
