Roy Staton

Roy B. Staton, 86, of Rockwell, passed away on Thursday, May 5, 2016 at the Lutheran Home at Trinity Oaks in Salisbury, NC. He was born on April 4, 1930 to the late W. Fred and Neeta Thomas Staton in Marshville, NC. Roy was a 1949 graduate of Marshville High School. Roy was a dairy farmer in Union County, in 1959 he was Young Farmer of the Year. He got his start in the Funeral Industry working with Southern Cemetery Consultants in the mid 1960's. In 1967 Roy and his wife Geraldine purchased Powles Funeral Home in Rockwell, Roy became a Licensed Funeral Director in 1969 and he and his wife owned and operated the Funeral Home until Roy's retirement in 2001. Roy and Geraldine built the Meadows Retirement Center in Rockwell in 1987, he was the Licensed Administrator and Geraldine the Co-Administrator. Roy is a partner in the Warrior Golf Club in China Grove, where he was active in the building and opening of the golf course. Upon his retirement, Roy and Geraldine traveled extensively all over the United States with the Piedmont Unit of the North Carolina Airstream RV Club. Roy loved spending time at his house in the NC Mountains at Linville Land Harbor. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Rockwell. Roy is a former member of the Rockwell Civitan Club and the North Carolina Funeral Directors Association. In addition to his parents, Roy was preceded in death by Brother, Reece Staton. Roy is survived by his Wife of over 66 years, Geraldine Helms Staton , whom he married April 15, 1950; Two Sons, Stephen Staton and wife Vicki of Rockwell, and Gerald Staton and wife Pam of Rockwell; Brother, Walter Staton and wife Edna of Weddington; Three Grandsons, Matt Staton and wife Adrian, Ryan Staton and wife Diantha, and Will Staton and wife Charlotte; Granddaughter, Brittany Staton and wife Deb Bonnett; Three Great-granddaughters, Maddie, Kenzie, and Chyler; Great-grandson, Levi. Visitation will be held Friday, May 6, 2016, 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm at Powles Staton Funeral Home, Rockwell, NC. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 7, 2016, 3:00 pm at the First Baptist Church of Rockwell, Rockwell, NC, with Rev. Dr. Benny Vickrey, and Rev. Matthew Laughter, Pastor, officiating.
