William "Bill" DeWeese, age 85, of the French Broad Community went to be with the Lord Wednesday, March 29, 2017. Bill was the youngest child born to the late Walter Carl and Pearl Sluder DeWeese on September 25, 1931 in Buncombe County. He retired from American Enka Corporation after 35 years. He farmed all of his life; loved gardening, putting up hay and helping his neighbors. Bill was a devoted son, brother, husband, father and grandfather. He was a Korean Veteran, serving in the U.S. Army and a faithful member of Alexander Missionary Baptist Church. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by sisters, Ruth Silvers, Frances Ratcliff, Cleo Sluder; brothers, Kenneth, Rex, Marvin and Clarence DeWeese. Surviving are his loving wife of almost 65 years, Dora Lee Griffin DeWeese; daughters, Vicki D. West and husband Gary of Weaverville, Tammy "T.K." DeWeese and fiancé, Denver Fraser of Montana; sons, Kenny DeWeese and Jessica Tweed, Randy DeWeese and wife Kim all of Alexander; and loving Papaw to Brooke DeWeese and fiancé Bradley Horne, Levi DeWeese and fiancée Aspen Mullins, and Trent DeWeese. His funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m., Saturday, April 1, 2017, in the Chapel of West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville, with his Pastor Gerald Sprinkle (if he is able), and Reverends Steve Rogers and Grady Rogers officiating. Burial will be near the waterfall at West Memorial Park. The family will receive friends 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Friday at the funeral home. At other times, the family will be at the residence.
