William, known to most as “Mike”, was born on February 10, 1947 in Junction City, Kansas. He and his younger brother Patrick were raised by his mother, Mary Katherine Bogan Sears along with the help of his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John Michael Bogan. William attended St. Xavier Catholic School and after graduation he went to Kansas State University, where he found the love of his life, his wife of 55+ years, Sheryl Darlene Westover.
Mike and Sheryl were married in Junction City on November 25, 1967 at St. Xavier’s Catholic Church. Together they moved to Dallas, Texas where Mike attended Dallas School of Mortuary Science. Mike became a Funeral Director and they ultimately decided to move to Greensboro, North Carolina where they raised two children, Roy and Brandy.
Mike worked for Forbis and Dick Funeral Home, and in the early 1970’s he went to work for Pete and Carolyn Goria where he was their top sales representative for burial vaults and pavers. After retiring from Goria Enterprises he went back to work as a Funeral Director for Hanes Lineberry until he finally retired in 2024. Mike was an incredibly hard worker and always provided for his family.
There are many wonderful ways to describe William Michael Sears, but most importantly, Mike adored his wife, Sheryl. They had a LOVE like no other, and it lasted for their entire lifetime.
He loved his children, Roy and Brandy. Mike was always there to support and provide or lend advice or just a listening ear. He was a HERO in the eyes of his kids. Mike cheered his children on during sporting and school events and encouraged them to be the best version of themselves.
Mike loved animals. The family home was always filled with dogs, cats, hamsters, guinea pigs, fish, iguanas, and recently he and his daughter had become backyard chicken owners.
Mike was compassionate and caring. One of his favorite parts of his career was being able to help people in their time of need, when a loved one had passed. He was one of the best, he handled everything so family members could take the time to be together and grieve. He believed in God, and the teachings of the Bible. Mike knew that one day he would be reunited with his loved ones, and he would be able to spend eternity with Sheryl.
Mike is survived by his brother, Patrick Sears and Spouse Millie of Topeka, KS , Son Michael ROY Sears, daughter Brandy Lea Sears, Daughter in Law Elizabeth Sears, and his only grandson Michael Robert Sears. Mike was predeceased by his mother Mary Katherine Bogan Sears, and his Wife Sheryl Darlene Westover Sears.
