William Larry Swindell (Larry), 68, died February 14, 2020.

Born in Pasquotank County, NC he lived in eastern NC most of his life until 2012, when he moved to Greensboro, NC.

He was the son of the late Betty Thigpen Swindell and Marion Smith Swindell. He grew up working in the family business and earned his license as an embalmer and funeral director in 1973. He formerly worked in New Bern, NC with Pollock Funeral Home and Edenton, NC with Swindell-Bass Funeral Home before becoming owner and manager of Swindell Funeral and Cremation Services in Hertford, NC. After moving to Greensboro, he worked part-time for George Brothers Funeral Service.

Larry was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church in Greensboro and a former member of Hertford United Methodist Church, where he sang in the choir and served on different committees for both. He was a member of both the National and NC Funeral Directors Associations, Order of the Golden Rule, served two terms as president of the Perquimans County Chamber of Commerce, was a Mason and a Shriner. Larry had a great love for Southern Gospel Music and enjoyed singing it as well. Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Suzanne Stanton Swindell; a daughter, Deborah Swindell Gray and husband Dannie of Apex, NC; two sons, Mark Stanton Swindell, wife Rev. Jenifer and grandson Toby of Apex, NC and Adam Michael Swindell, wife Lora and grandson Alex and granddaughter Cecilia of Willow Spring, NC; two sisters and their husbands, Sheron S. Barnard and Ronnie of Chesapeake, VA and Beth S. Williams and David of Midlothian, VA. He was preceded in death by sister Jane Brothers Swindell.

Funeral services will be held Monday at 2:00pm at Centenary United Methodist Church, 2300 W. Friendly Ave., Greensboro, NC with Rev. Kelley Groce officiating. A graveside service will be held Tuesday at 2:00 pm in Cedar Wood Cemetery, Hertford, NC.

The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service at Centenary United Methodist Church.
